The multimedia revolution is undoubtedly taking place.
Never in history, in fact, humanity has had the opportunity
of accessing so much audio and video content, from such a large
variety of sources and for purposes so diverse that include both
pure entertainment and scholarly pursuits.
The multimedia revolution, however, is still far from being over;
many issues remain open to debate and competing visions of the
future continue to vie for supremacy. It is, therefore, the right
time to discuss what is the future of multimedia delivery,
quantitatively addressing questions such as the role of streaming
in an increasingly download-based digital world, peer-to-peer
multimedia communications, multimedia over ad hoc mobile networks,
DVB-H, packet videoconferencing, video sensor networks, 3D television,
car-to-car and car-to-roadside signal communications, and other
evolving and emerging applications.
The ICC 2006 Multimedia Communications Workshop (MultiComm) offers
a unique, focused opportunity to gather and discuss with peers
the state of the art as well as the most interesting potential new
directions of multimedia communications.
Experts in the fields of speech, audio and video communications are,
therefore, invited to submit original, unpublished works as a way
to contribute to an exchange of results, experiences, ideas and
proposals that has the ambition of setting a milestone in the
evolution of the international multimedia communications community.
Topics of particular interests include, but are not limited to the
following:
- Quality of service for multimedia communications
- Cross layer techniques for multimedia over wireless networks
- Multimedia support over multi-hop networks
- Reliable delivery for streaming, VoIP, videoconferencing applications
Authors are invited to submit the full papers (max 6 pages, double columns, including figures and references) electronically in PDF format using the MultiComm conference paper management system.
Paper format must follow the ICC 2006 IEEE standard for conference manuscripts. Authors must guarantee that their paper will be presented at the conference. One of the authors must register by the ICC 2006 advance registration deadline, i.e., 28 April 2006.
Accepted papers will be published in the ICC Workshop Proceedings CD-ROM.
